Hazabel privacy policy
Last updated: 13 October 2026
Hazabel is a learning app for children aged 3 to 7, made by Kresten van Leeuwen ("we"). This policy explains what happens to data when you use Hazabel.
In short
- Hazabel does not need an account.
- We do not collect any data: nothing you do in the app reaches us or anyone else.
- There are no ads, no tracking and no analytics in the app.
- Photos, profiles and progress stay on your own devices.
What the app stores on your device
To work, Hazabel keeps the following only on the device itself:
- Profiles: the (nick)name you enter, the age and the chosen animal.
- Progress: each child's level per game, the stars and diplomas they earned, how far they got on the adventure map, and the story books the child makes.
- Your own photos: photos a parent adds in the parents' corner, with the name or word typed for them.
- Settings: such as language, reading aloud and the parent code.
Syncing between your own devices
You can pair your own devices (for example a TV, tablet and phone) with a QR code. Paired devices exchange profiles, progress (including stars, diplomas, the adventure and the story books), settings and photos only over your own Wi-Fi network, encrypted with a key that only your devices know. There is no server or cloud in between; we cannot see this data.
Cardboard look
Hazabel can give your own photo a cardboard look: the subject is cut out and gets a paper edge. The cutting out happens on an iPhone or iPad itself, with the image recognition built into the device; the photo is not sent anywhere. The cut-out version is kept next to the photo and, like the photo, only travels to your paired devices over your own Wi-Fi.
Sound and subtitles
When subtitles are set to "Automatic", the app checks on the device itself whether the sound is turned all the way down. This is not stored or sent anywhere. Hazabel does not use the microphone.
Permissions the app asks for
- Photos: only when a parent adds photos in the parents' corner.
- Camera: only to scan the pairing QR code of another device. The app reads the code itself; no images are kept or sent.
- Local network: to find your own paired devices on your Wi-Fi.
Reading aloud
Hazabel reads texts aloud with your device's speech feature (from Apple or Google). By default this happens on the device. If you choose a voice marked "online" in the settings, the device's speech service processes the text to be spoken over the internet. This only concerns the game's texts, never photos or profiles.
Children
Hazabel is made for children. Because we collect no data, no children's data is sent to us or to third parties. Settings, profile management and photos are behind a parent code.
Deleting data
In the parents' corner you can delete profiles and photos, or erase everything. Removing the app from a device erases all data on that device. Other paired devices keep their own copy until you erase it there too.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update the date at the top.
